Privacy Policy

Catch 'N Bake helps you identify what you caught, log it, cook it, and share it. Doing that well requires some of your information. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, and what control you have over it.

01What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: your email address, a display name, and a username. You may optionally add an avatar photo and profile details.
  • Your catches and cooking: photos you submit for fish identification, catch log entries (species, notes, and the photo), recipes you save or share, ratings, and comments.
  • Community activity: posts, photos, group activity, likes, follows, reports you file, and users you block.
  • Support messages: anything you send us when you report a problem.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage analytics: we use Amplitude to understand how features are used — events like opening the app, logging a catch, or generating a recipe, associated with a user identifier. This helps us decide what to build and fix.
  • Device basics: device model, operating system version, and app version, used for compatibility and crash diagnosis.
  • Push token: if you enable notifications, we store the token needed to deliver them. It is visible only to you and our systems, never to other users.

We do not collect your contacts, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising.

02How we use it

  • To run the product: identify fish from your photos, generate recipes, keep your catch journal, and power the community feed.
  • To operate your account: sign-in, notifications you've enabled, and customer support.
  • To keep the community safe: reviewing reported content and enforcing our Community Guidelines.
  • To improve the app: aggregate analytics about which features are used and where people get stuck.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

03AI features

Fish identification and recipe generation are powered by an AI model provided by Anthropic. When you use these features, the photo you submit (for identification) or your request details (species, region, preferences, for recipes) are sent to Anthropic's API to produce the result.

AI results can be wrong. Identification and recipe results are generated by AI and provided for general guidance. Always confirm species identification, local regulations, and safe food-handling practices yourself — including cooking fish to a safe internal temperature of 145°F.

We do not permit our AI providers to use your submissions to train their models under the API terms that apply to our account.

04Location & photos

Location is optional and used while you're in the app to tailor features like region-aware recipes and local conditions. You can decline the permission and use the app without it, or revoke it any time in your device settings.

Photos: when you upload a photo, we strip embedded GPS coordinates (EXIF location data) from the image before it is stored. Your fishing spots stay yours. The photo itself, once shared to the community, is visible to other users as part of your post.

05Who we share with

We share information only with the service providers that run the app, and only what each needs:

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or others.

06Community content

Content you share to the community — posts, catch photos, recipes, comments, your username and avatar — is visible to other users of the app. Think of the community feed as public within Catch 'N Bake. Your email address is never shown to other users.

07Payments

Premium subscriptions and purchases are processed by the platform you buy through — Apple's App Store, Google Play, or our payment processor, Stripe. We receive confirmation of your purchase and subscription status so we can unlock your features; we do not receive or store full payment card numbers.

08Retention & deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account any time in the app under Settings → Delete Account. Deletion removes your account, profile, catches, posts, photos, and stored files from our systems. Some records may persist briefly in backups before being purged, and we may retain limited records where required by law (for example, payment records).

09Security

All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Access to user data inside our systems is restricted by row-level security so that private fields are readable only by you. No system is perfectly secure, but we design ours so that a mistake exposes as little as possible.

10Children

Catch 'N Bake is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at jordan.hoth99@gmail.com and we will delete it.

11Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information. You can exercise most of these directly in the app (edit your profile, delete your account). For anything else, email jordan.hoth99@gmail.com and we'll respond within a reasonable time. We do not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

12Changes & contact

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and notify you in the app. Questions go to:
